Sourcing
Custom Gemstone Sourcing
The process
Four steps, in this order
The order matters. Specification first and pricing last is what keeps a quote from being a guess.
01
You send a specification
Species, colour band, shape, size or millimetre dimensions, quantity, quality floor, treatment tolerance and destination. As much of that as you have — the form takes it in four short steps.
02
We look, and we reject most of it
This is the actual work. The volume of material in the Bangkok market is the problem rather than the solution, and someone has to hold a great deal of it against your specification and put nearly all of it back.
03
You see the stones
Images and video of the actual stones, with weights, dimensions and the disclosure recorded for each. Video, not just stills, for anything where transparency or colour behaviour under movement matters.
04
You select, then we price
Pricing is quoted against the stones you have chosen and the quantity you need. Asking for a price before the stones exist produces a range, not a quote.
Seeing the stones
Video, not just photographs
A still image cannot show extinction, windowing, or how a stone behaves as it turns. For most coloured stones — and all rough — that is exactly what you need to judge.
Buyer questions
Working with us
- What does it cost to send a requirement?
- Nothing. Sending a specification and receiving images and video of matching stones costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.
- How specific does my requirement need to be?
- As specific as you can make it, but incomplete is fine. "Teal sapphire, emerald cut, around a hundred pieces at 5 × 3 mm" is enough to start. The fields you leave blank are the ones we will ask about.
- Can you find something you do not normally stock?
- That is what sourcing is. The material in the Bangkok market is far wider than any one dealer's holdings, which is the reason a sourcing office exists at all.
- Do you supply stones with laboratory reports?
- Where a stone carries one, we supply it. Where a requirement calls for one, it needs to be commissioned before the stone ships. Reports are worth it for significant single stones and for anything sold on a specific claim; they are not worth it for calibrated melee.
